An Adair County resident received a call from a man identifying himself as a Russell County Deputy Sheriff and gave a badge number.
He was familiar with where she worked and lived.
The man went on to advise she had a failure to appear warrant.
He began to try and obtain personal information from her and she stated he was very professional and convincing that he was an officer.
Russell County Sheriff’s Office advised this is a scam.
As your Sheriff, I want residents to know that agencies in this area will not call you and tell you that you have a warrant of arrest and ask for personal information.
So, if you get this type of call, do not give any personal information out and hang up immediately.
Then report it to a law enforcement agency.
